Hi everyone,

This journey is a hard one. And if you're in the self-healing world and have opened your mind to this idea of healing, I'm so proud of you. At the end of the day, this is your life. And choosing to follow the path that have lead others to successfully feeling well again, is such a smart decision, even when it seems far-fetched, silly, or unexplained at first (even though there is so much science behind it!)

Understanding this illness and this journey can be confusing, scary, intimidating, lonely, all the feelings. I get that. But at some point it will click. I had a friend who recovered tell me once, "it's less about doing all the things and watching recovery videos over and over, and more about recovery 'clicking' for you. Watch the videos until you get it, so you know what has to be done, and then you do it." I'm here to help you get to that point. Below are some thoughts/sayings that are a bit random but that I feel have been so important to understand how to heal, things that help it "click" for me.

  1. It's less about trying to calm your nervous system and more about allowing your nervous system to feel safe again. The language of the nervous system is not words or logic, it's feeling.

  2. Your response to your symptoms is the foundation of the work in recovery.

  3. Self soothing does wonders. Imagine you are soothing your inner child, who is confused scared, sick.

  4. Treat yourself (through thoughts and actions) like someone you love deeply, with compassion and care.

  5. Your healing does not need to be validated by others to be happening.

  6. People won't understand what you're going through. That's okay. You can still choose to have people in your life that genuinely care even if they don't fully understand. Unfortunately, you can't force people to understand.

  7. Your body is your subconscious mind. Your body can hold onto literally everything you've ever been through.

  8. The mind and the body and deeply connected. Truly learn and understand how our thoughts affect everything.

  9. Your symptoms are being produced by your brain. It's still very real, but if the brain is the root/beginning of the symptoms, the brain is the way out too.

  10. Healing happens by living life again, even if it's uncomfortable for a while.

  11. I saw a comment on a Realan Agle video once that said "I'm looking at this like my nervous system reverted back to being a baby, and I have to slowly teach it that it's safe in this world again." And that has always stuck with me and proves very accurate.

  12. Adjustment periods and dips are a very normal and nessesary part of recovery. You actually need them to recover. Try not to fear them.

  13. Fear fuels symptoms.

  14. You can take your symptoms with you. You're safe even if you don't feel like you are.

  15. Paitence is the biggest lesson in this whole journey. You can't rush your healing. Accepting and being patient with yourself works better than trying to force it.

  16. What you resist, persists. Don't try to fix symptoms. Let them be there and let your body feel safe with them.

If you're on your healing journey or recovered and have some statements that have been super helpful to you, I'd love for you to comment them!

Your friend,

Zoey
